Award Winners - Superbass

For my award winners task i decided to analyse 'Super bass' by Nicki Minaj which won best hip hop music video in 2011

There are convention portrayed such as visuals matching actions, close ups of the artist, motifs and iconography and many more.

The theme is quite girly throughout!

Dance routines are also used which fit in with the convention. Strangley enough the video is random and doesn't tell a narrative making it more interesting and effective as it helps to convey different random things and life is random at times and not always one straight road ... this is learned through being a teenager.

Mise en scene is used effectively as the girls tend to have the same clothing and hair, however emphasis is put on to Nicki as she is in the middle and always in the limelight.

The video appeals to young girls as they are having fun, girly connations are shown throughout the use of the colour pink and stylish clothes. The pillow fight at the end also has reference to
Nicki's type of audience.

Inverted colours were used on the last verse which added a creative effect making the video more interesting.

The women in this song have power! The way Nicki seems like a boss shows the representation of women now compared to back in the 40's.
